There are several options for installing Git on macOS. Note that any non-source distributions are provided by third parties, and may not be up to date with the latest source release.
Homebrew
- Beginner's Setup Guide for Git & Github on Mac OS X. There is an updated version of this post for OS X 10.9. While the steps below should still work, I recommend checking out the new guide if you are running 10.9! There are already plenty of guides that explain the particular steps of getting Git and Github going on your mac in detail.
- Open with GitHub Desktop Download ZIP Launching GitHub Desktop. To make sure that you use the right SDK check for ACIDANTHERAMACSDK macro in Availability.h.
Install homebrew if you don't already have it, then:
$ brew install git

Xcode
Apple ships a binary package of Git with Xcode.
Binary installer
Tim Harper provides an installer for Git. The latest version is 2.27.0, which was released 4 months ago, on 2020-07-22.
